Rescue Me ID: 16-10-31-00323GIO (male)

Italian Greyhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET GIO | AVAILABLE | SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY | EMAIL: ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG. | Basil + Gio are a true bonded pair of Italian greyhounds. Gio is a special needs boy so we can easily understand the connection these two gents have developed with each other. So sweet (3 Gio is the slender blue fawn boy with his big brother Basil sharply dressed in black and white (seal Irish). Gio is epileptic and his seizures are controlled with oral medication twice daily. You'd never know to meet him in the fur. He's a lively, happy fellow who enjoys activities with his brother and humans. In true iggie fashion, they're either on, or off (and ... (Read More)preferably in your lap). :) B+G hail from the OC shelter where they were picked up as strays in early spring. They're estimated around 7 and 8 years, not even halfway hrough their lives. Basil is a biggie iggie at 15+ lbs. and lighter framed Gio is a good size too at 12+ lbs. We have no history for them prior to their shelter admission, but clearly they came from the same former home and have known each other for a while. For anyone familiar with this breed, you'll know that finding themselves abandoned, alone on the streets and then in a high intake municipal shelter is not something iggies were cut out for. We knew we had to get them out of there and help them find the right forever family. Both boys have been doing great in one of our awesome foster homes. We put them on nutritious diets to help each pup return to full health. Basil worked on his graceful figure while his smaller counterpart Gio gained a pound or so. Our resident sighthounds are now both at healthy weight with beautiful fur coats and excellent energy. They've been perfecting their leash skills and are perfect indoor gentlemen, crate trained, house broken, and lazy lol. They enjoy a walk or two a day and look forward to sharing that time with their people. A yard would be great in their forever home but as long as they get their daily exercise and fresh air, they're content to be the pampered indoor dogs that IGs were meant to be. Cats are a bit too exciting for our Italian gents and they'd appreciate a quieter home environment with older children if any. Such a dynamic duo, these two, and every bit the beautiful iggies. If you have IG or special needs dog experience (preferred but not required), understand leadership and are willing to set boundaries, and live a peaceful existence filled with love and good cheer, please inquire about our two big iggies Basil+Gio. They are special boys, just like all IGs, and will complete a special forever family in SoCal. *** To view more pupdates on Basil and Gio, please visit them on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pg/waggingdogrescue/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1151021721588994 (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet GIDGET -- AVAILABLE -- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY -- EMAIL: ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG -- GIDGET | Got piglet? Well, we do! Our cutie patootie GIDGET is the sweetest lil piggie hippo doggie girl in town. We first met this stubby dog while volunteering at her shelter and after we learned more about her, we just knew she had to be a Wagging Dog! Gidget arrived at the shelter as a stray. We don't know what brought her to that point in life, but she was adopted soon after arrival by a seriously irresponsible and downright stupid family. They picked Gidget up from her spay surgery and took her to a dog park - in a muzzle - that same day. Thank ... (Read More)Dog they returned her to the shelter the next day because they 'didn't like her behavior at the dog park.' Never mind that they ripped her surgery site open with that foolish stunt. Forget that her hormones were all over the place, she was on pain killers and antibiotics from surgery, and should have been home resting quietly and not stuffed into a muzzle at a dog park and accosted by other ill mannered animals. Welp, after we heard that ridiculous tale, we searched for a foster home, found one, and drove her out of the shelter for good. Loving girl Gidget is ready to meet her forever future. She's definitely in the market for responsible dog owners. A family who understands leadership and is willing to set boundaries for our young lady is a must. We want to know that the good manners she's learning in foster care will continue in her forever home and future. Gidget is very playful and a well matched adult male companion dog would be great. She enjoys watching squirrels in the backyard and going for daily walks and exercise. Gidget is crate trained, house broken, current on everything and microchipped. Her bags are packed and she's great in the car so send us an app today if you'd like to add this beauty to your fur family! Rescue Me ID: 16-03-23-00253BRIGGS (male)

American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet BRIGGS -- AVAILABLE -- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY -- EMAIL: ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG -- Can't. Stand. The. Cuteness. Seriously?? This dog is SO freakin cute!! He's big, beefy and such a sweetie - built like a linebacker :) Briggs looks like an American Bully, a blend of bulldog and pit bull. He's got bulldog nubs for teeth and a horrible hack job on his ears (which resulted in chronic ear problems causing lots of pain - lame). Briggs is a cool blue tricolor, and his former owner abandoned him at the shelter saying he was too much energy. YA RIGHT. This dog is anything but. We think Briggs is around 3+ years and he weighs 80ish pounds. He ... (Read More)came to us in bedraggled shape but with clean living, nutritious food and supplements, his coat has returned to full shiny health. Like most of the young dogs we get in rescue, they were raised with no boundaries by their original owners. Everyone wants a cute puppy and then they fail to provide structure and guidance. For Briggs, it would've cost him his life at the shelter but we were able to grab him in the eleventh hour. Briggs has been working on his manners and behavior and has come far in the very skilled care of one of our best foster homes. We saw the potential in this stocky gem of a dog and just needed the right people to help him realize it, and he's turned into one of their fave dogs of all time! Briggs gets along great with dogs of all sizes and really enjoys playtime with pals. He loves belly rubs, is super loyal, and as you might imagine he's something of a people magnet. Good thing he loooooves the attention! Beefcake Briggs is looking for a forever family with an above average understanding of dogs; a family who lives a leadership lifestyle with your well mannered animals. He needs people willing to set boundaries - for life, not just a few months - in a quieter child free home environment. A well matched, calm adult companion dog might be nice but not necessary for this people lover. He's not cat tolerant. Briggs has been learning that Nothing In Life Is Free - NILIF. This lifestyle philosophy will help Briggs continue to excel in his forever future with YOU :) He's working on not jumping up when he gets excited and although it's a tough habit to break, he's really excelling. Oh, and be prepared for LOTS of kisses! Inquire today and schedule a time to meet our resident beefcake Briggs! -- To view more photos and pupdates, please visit Briggs on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.976213849069783.1073741938.294289027262272&type=3 (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET CHEWBACCA -- AVAILABLE -- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY -- ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG -- This little imp is Chewbacca, but his friends call him Chewie. Believe it or not, he's even cuter in the fur :) He's a happy pup of a couple years and the perfect best friend size at 50 pounds. We have no idea what his ingredients are (besides cute) - perhaps pit bull shepherd blend? He loves water so maybe throw in some retriever too. Turn the hose on and instead of running, Chewie figures that's the signal to play! Yay!!! Our golden kid with the widow's peak and forehead wrinkles is a sweet and gentle boy. He gets so excited to see his people that his ... (Read More)tail wags wildly for at least two minutes (even if they're just walking into the room from another room lol). Chewie's dog tolerant (http://www.badrap.org/node/97) but not a fan of cats. He gets along with most dogs and sure hopes to have a playful doggie pal around who likes to cuddle too. He's been perfecting his manners and skills and is super treat motivated. It's funny how his hearing improves when there's food involved too. He's crate trained and house broken, and although an active guy, he's good at entertaining himself with toys when it's time to chill out. Chewie hopes his people will like to play fetch cuz along with a love of water, he's great at retrieving the ball. Over and over and over. He's sure to keep you in stitches with his goofy antics and puppy fun :) Like most dogs, Chewie loves his walks and needs daily exercise and mental stimulation to thrive and grow. A semi-active family willing to provide leadership and structure will help this darling boy mature into one fine adult, and we'd be happy to provide professional training to ensure that his move is successful. If you're a fun loving family who enjoys doing things with your furkids too, then get in touch and meet Chewiepooh. He'll snag your heart and hopefully a forever place with you! -- To view more photos and pupdates of Chewbacca, please visit him on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1019348368089664.1073741946.294289027262272&type=3 (Less)

MEET SUNSHINE --- AVAILABLE --- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY --- Prepare for your heart to melt when you meet our beautiful golden girl Sunshine. Her sweet, shy demeanor longing to be loved is simply irresistible. A petite pit bull terrier around 9+ years young, Sunny is the perfect size companion at 45 pounds. This incredible survivor is a gal who never ceases to amaze us, and she's ready to share her specialness with forever folks who are special too. Sound like you? Sunshine's foster parents say she's the best furry family member, so quiet, mellow and loving. She remains very shy and timid, and it's heartwarming to see a low tail wag of ... (Read More)excitement when you come home. If she wants more attention, she'll give your calf a little nudge (3 Sunshine is extremely sensitive to loud noises and is looking for a calm, quiet home environment to enjoy forevermore. Sun is a big fan of food, and you wouldn't believe how excited she gets when it's meal time :) A quiet girl herself, she barks her joy during food prep. Hehe! Sunny really loves her canine foster family too and hopes for a calm older dog around her own size or bigger who will enjoy being with her. She thinks cats and small animals provide lots of fun to chase so will be best suited for a home without these friends. Turtles with their slow calm energy however, are A-okay in her book. She just wants a peaceful home with no young (loud) children and parents who like to go for walks and spend time together. Do you have the perfect future for our deserving ray of light? Ready to fill your home and heart with golden love this holiday? Mastiff Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet SHERMAN | AVAILABLE SOON! | EMAIL: ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG | SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY | Oh ShermieČ'Ř| This gentle 95 lb. giant has been part of the WDR family since January 2013. We plucked him from a high kill LA shelter and adopted him to a family that spring. We thought we made a good choice for our boy, but alas he was returned to us in August 2014. His family wasn't able to help him with his separation anxiety (http://dogtime.com/separation-anxiety.html); in fact, they didn't try even though they assured us they'd give him their all. Instead they gave him all of their food and treats but no exercise or mental stimulation ... (Read More)to go with it. He came back to his rescue at 112 lbs., depressed, obese, and having forgotten how to DOG. We were crushed. With the help of a team of dedicated volunteers who spent time with Sherman at his boarding kennel, over the course of the next half year and more we were able to bring Sherman back to himself and remind him about things that balanced dogs like to do (such as using their noses/brains, enjoying the company of other life forms, enjoying the walk). Unfortunately Sherm's distress over being alone in a home setting (but oddly enough, not at the kennel) kept him out of a family and home life. Until Allison. This spring, Shermie was lucky enough to move to our most skilled foster care provider's home, where beefcake brother Briggs is also in foster. Sherm's been working on his crate skills and inside manners, and lo and behold he has a bevy of doggie friends! We are SO proud of him and so thrilled that this beautiful, sweet dog finally gets to enjoy some of the luxuries of a pampered house pet. And we're so grateful to his amazing foster mom Allison, with Peticularly Perfect - North San Diego Pet Care, for giving him this opportunity and teaching him these valuable lessons. Sherm's working hard on his distress level when people are gone and coming to respect the boundaries that have been established. Even though he's a big mushy love, he's still got a stubborn streak as wide as his forehead ;) and like most blockheads, he tests limits with each new person he meets. When his miracle worker foster momma deems him ready to leave her care, we hope Sherm can find a FOREVER family who can take over where she leaves off. She'll ensure his future family has all of the info they need to succeed, and WDR will do everything possible to make his next move a forever success. We'll be looking for DOG SAVVY, large breed experienced folks in Southern CA with another well matched mellow companion dog to keep the boy company. A crystal clear understanding of the importance of leadership in the human-dog relationship is a must, must, must. Homeowners preferred in a single family residence with secure backyard. Renters will be required to have renter's insurance and landlord approval. NO CATS at this time. Sherm's working on it but for now, he's not cat tolerant. The big love is bomb proof with humans of any size, the most loving and gentle giant around. If you're interested in being the forever family our Sherminator is working hard to meet, please inquire - ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG --- To view additional pup-dates and photos of Sherman, please visit him on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.546234702067702.125556.294289027262272&type=3 --- To view Sherman in action, please visit his YouTube video playlist at: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKp8buw7HyCallz74y3QUxY_82hk2n5Ev (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-03-00126FIDGET (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET FIDGET * AVAILABLE! * SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY * EMAIL: ADOPTIONS@WAGGINGDOG.ORG * Check out Fidget and his Jolly Egg BOL - https://youtu.be/dDYmT3GYlDg :) Meet WDR's resident tripod FIDGET! Ain't he the cutest? We think so! That giant head, his engaging nonstop smile, and his big brown eyes have us completely smitten (3 We rescued Fidget when he was about 10 months old (Dec. 2013) after animal control confiscated him from a local reservation. He had severe bite wounds to his right foreleg, compound fractures, bone sticking out ... It was guessed that he'd been living like that for a few months. There was no saving it so the ... (Read More)county Spirit Fund (http://www.sddac.com/donations.asp) provided for his amputation. Fidget completed his recovery in one of our foster homes before finding what we thought was his forever home the following May. Sadly, Fidget's adoption didn't succeed. His former owners had so much love to give him, and he's such a loving dog and soaks it all up. Unfortunately without leadership, all the love in the world won't set a dog up for success. Fidget has been returned to WDR twice now - by the family who adopted and kept him for over a year, and later his foster family who wanted to adopt when he came back. He was not getting along with the other dogs in his former homes :( Fidget is almost 4 years old now, a young adult animal who's grown up with too much freedom and not enough structure. :( He'll excel with ongoing guidance from people who live a leadership lifestyle with their animals, understand the importance of energy, and are willing to set and maintain boundaries. A family willing to use his crate, who will not rush him into an unsupervised relationship with other dogs before he's ready is an absolute must. Fidget is dog tolerant (http://www.badrap.org/node/97) and gets along with most dogs. He wants his next parents to understand that he's normal and not fault him for it. A calm, adult female companion dog might be nice company but definitely not necessary. Fidget's current foster parents work long hours and he's doing great being home alone with toys, and he goes for short jogs with his 3 legs and his foster mom which helps while away the day. The missing leg doesn't slow him down ;p and his energy requires daily physical and mental outlets. Fidget is extremely food motivated and eager to train. He's fixed and current on everything, and we'd be happy to provide professional training to ensure that his next move is successful. If you're a dog savvy, feline free home with above average understanding of man's best friend and what sets us up for a successful relationship together, please contact us ASAP! --- To view more Fidget photos and pupdates, please visit him on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.708085535882617.1073741871.294289027262272&type=3 (Less)
